Make Waking Up In the Morning A Little Less Painful

HowToWakeUpEarly.com

There are seriously few things in life that I hate more than waking up early -- particularly for school. It is, however, just a little bit comforting, a tad bit helpful, and somewhat-surprising-even-though-it-shouldn't-be, to know that there is an entire website dedicated to the single goal of making waking up early less painful.

I skimmed through most all of the tips and I found these to be of the most help (I had already been doing some, and others -- after trying them -- really worked quite well):

  • Go to sleep earlier: This one is pretty much a given. But you'd be surprised at how much even a half hour could help you not only the next morning, but indeed throughout the entire day.
  • Drink a glass of water just after you wake up: The idea being here that if you keep a glass of water on your nightstand, and drink it just as you get up, you'll wake up your body from the inside as opposed to the outside. You'll get your body moving -- you know. This works.
  • Look at a screen: This wasn't listed explicitly as a tip, but it was eluded to. And it's something that I've found to help a ton as well. I know how horrible this sounds, but the first thing I do when my iPhone's alarm sounds is roll over, swipe to turn off the alarm, and then go through Notification Center to catch up on anything that came in during the night. When I wake up later, I never start my day like this. But when it's so early, having something for your eyes to look at and your brain to think about really helps you feel less dead by the time you pop out of bed.
